I don't think I've ever been more scared in my life than I was yesterday....
Will goes to daycare about 30 minutes away from where I work. The school he's in is near our house since there isn't anywhere near my work that'd I put him, so yesterday we had a huge band of storms roll thru Oklahoma and tornado's to go along w/ them. Now, Will's school has an amazing safe room for all the kids and teachers (and super freaked out parents who can't wait to get to their child) w/ hurricane proof shades to cover the windows, so he's more protected than me or his daddy at our work places.
I watched the weather from my office yesterday and as the first storm rolled thru (the worst storm we had) I sat there trembling as this huge circulation hoovered over Will's school. Fortunately it didn't drop down at that point, but unfortunately it did elsewhere. After that one passed Will's school another was coming up behind it. I was going to wait out the second storm, but at this point panick had set in so I took off hoping to get there before the second one got into town.
I got to his school in time, but the owner of the daycare would not release any children because another huge storm was about 15 minutes away and it had the potential to produce an even bigger tornado. Which I was completely fine w/ that decision, I didn't care if I was there all night, just as long as I was with Will. After that storm passed about 45 minutes later we left daycare and headed home. It took us quite awhile to get home since so many roads were closed from the tornado or down powerlines, so that was a little scary.
The good news is after that first tornado, no more came thru the area, we were all safe and accounted for and after getting to Will, I was able to relax, but goodness I'm worried about tornado season. I hadn't really thought that thru until yesterday and as stated before Will is more safe at the school than I am in the metal building I work in or the 2 story glass lined building his daddy works in, but being that far away and knowing there isn't a thing I could do if a tornado hit his school completely freaks me out. I hope we have a mild season and no more scary days like yesterday. I know a lot of you experienced that fear yesterday as your children were in school or daycare and I'm so grateful no one was hurt and you got your babies home safe as well.
